高校時代にストリートダンスを始め、24歳で地元・仙台にてタップダンスと出会う。佐藤勝氏に師事し、上京後は熊谷和徳氏に師事。2006年から2017年までKaz Tap Companyのメンバーとして活動。現在はソロタップダンサーとして、タップダンスを軸に、ダンス・演劇・美術・映像など異なる分野のアーティストと協働しながら創作を続けている。日常の断片から生まれる風景や感情を手がかりに、身体、音、空間が交わる独自の舞台表現を探求。2010年からソロ公演シリーズ「MURATA 黄昏」を展開し、コンテンポラリーダンサーの藤田善宏氏とのユニット「ニヴァンテ」でも活動している。また、子ども向けのタップダンス体験ワークショップを全国各地で実施。2021年、Detroit Dance City Festivalに招聘。2023年から2026年までフランスのFestival OFF Avignonに参加し、フィンランド・ヘルシンキでも公演を行っている。

Masaki Murata began street dancing in high school and discovered tap dance at the age of 24 in his hometown of Sendai, Japan. He studied under Masaru Sato and, after moving to Tokyo, under Kazunori Kumagai. From 2006 to 2017, he was a member of Kaz Tap Company.
Now working independently as a tap dancer and performer, Murata creates work across dance, theatre, visual arts and film, collaborating with artists from a wide range of disciplines. Drawing on fragments of everyday life, he explores performances where movement, sound and space intersect. Since 2010, he has developed his solo performance series MURATA TASOGARE. He also performs with contemporary dancer Yoshihiro Fujita as the duo Nivante, and leads creative tap-dance workshops for children across Japan.
He received the Excellence Award in the solo category at SAI DANCE FESTIVAL and earned multiple international invitations through the Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival. He was invited to the Detroit Dance City Festival in 2021 and appeared at Festival OFF Avignon in France from 2023 through 2026. In 2024, he received the Weekly Award – BEST DANCE at Adelaide Fringe and BEST SHOW 2024 at Newcastle Fringe Festival, both in Australia. He has also performed in Helsinki, Finland.

Masaki Murata commence la street dance au lycée et découvre les claquettes à l’âge de 24 ans, dans sa ville natale de Sendai, au Japon. Il se forme auprès de Masaru Sato, puis de Kazunori Kumagai après son installation à Tokyo. De 2006 à 2017, il fait partie de la Kaz Tap Company.
Aujourd’hui, il développe un travail de création personnel à la croisée de la danse, du théâtre, des arts visuels et de l’image, en collaboration avec des artistes de différentes disciplines. À partir de fragments du quotidien, il imagine des spectacles où se rencontrent le mouvement, le son et l’espace. Depuis 2010, il développe sa série de spectacles en solo « MURATA TASOGARE ». Il forme également le duo « Nivante » avec le danseur contemporain Yoshihiro Fujita et anime des ateliers de claquettes pour enfants dans différentes régions du Japon.
Il a reçu le prix d’excellence dans la catégorie solo du SAI DANCE FESTIVAL et plusieurs invitations internationales dans le cadre du Fukuoka Dance Fringe Festival. Invité au Detroit Dance City Festival en 2021, il se produit au Festival OFF d’Avignon, en France, de 2023 à 2026. En 2024, il reçoit le prix « Weekly Award – BEST DANCE » à l’Adelaide Fringe et le prix « BEST SHOW 2024 » au Newcastle Fringe Festival, en Australie.
